The funeral of Hanthawadi U Win Tin, was held at the Yay Way Cemetery in Yangon on April 23, 2013. U Win Tin, 85, who served nearly 20 years in prison and the country's longest-serving political prisoner after challenging the military rule by co-founding the National League for Democracy (NLD), died on April 21, 2014. Hundreds of mourners gathered at the funeral, many in blue shirts and holding aloft portraits of their hero. (Photos by Tin SUN)

Tuesday 22 April 2014, the Ceremony of paying tribute to the fallen hero, U Win Tin, who died of renal failure on April 21, 2014, at the age of 85, was held at the Yudathan Avenue in Yangon. U Win Tin was a Burmese journalist, politician and former political prisoner. He co-founded the National League for Democracy (NLD). He was imprisoned by the military government for 19 years (1989–2008) for his writings and his leadership position in the NLD. The funeral ceremony of U Win Tin will be held at the Yay Way Cemetery in Yangon on April 23.

This is an exclusive interview with well-known comedy actor Khin Hlaing, who entered into Monkhood at the Aung Zabu Tawya Dhamma Yeiktha in Yangon on April 18, 2014 for Thingyan merit. Khin Hlaing and his group also made a donations to Monks at the monastery and they will study Buddhist religious practices during their one-week stay in Monkhood.

NLD Veteran U Win Tin Passed Away, Aged 85

U Win Tin, the veteran NLD leader, former journalist and ex-political prisoner, died of renal failure on Monday morning at the Yangon General Hospital, aged 85. Born in Pegu Division on 21 March 1929, Win Tin rose to become a noted journalist. In 1988 he was a co-founder, alongside Aung San Suu Kyi, of the opposition National League for Democracy. He was jailed by the ruling military junta in 1989, and spent a total of 19 years in prison during which time his health deteriorated due to mistreatment and torture. He was finally released in 2008, and continued to be an inspirational opposition leader until his final days.
